VFD for a KO Lee Surface Grinder

I just picked up a KO Lee S918 Surface Grinder. It utilizes a 1.5 HP spindle motor, and a 1 HP hydraulics motor. I have single phase power to my shop, and need to convert to 3 phase for the grinder. My question is will a 1 phase to 3 phase 3HP VFD be enough for this grinder, or do I need to go larger?

VFD's do not work that way, and you have the control transformer and sub systems. A VFD for the most part cannot be used as a 3 power source unless significantly oversized (4-5X plus more if 3 phase input) and will most likely damage transformers or any other subsystem you run off of them. You are better off using an RPC or a 5Hp Phase Perfect Simple if just for that machine. If multiple machines than a larger model.
