Been thinking about trying a casting project for a while. At $65 with free shipping I couldn't help myself. Probably work for heat treating and case hardening too I'd assume.......

 
The ad suggests you can melt up to 13KG of gold, if I read it correctly. Sure, maybe it could do that, but man, $65 seems pretty steep. :)
 
If you've got some spare materials laying around, and the tools and skills to build one, it wouldn't take but a couple hundred bucks worth of specialty items to knock out one of your own... Yeah, I can see buying one at that price. I don't know if I'd want to be the first to light it, but I could see that...
 
I will be looking forward to reading about your experience. The one concern is the tongs. I would not want to try lifting that crucible full of molten metal out of the furnace with them nor would I want to try pouring same. I would look for or make a proper pair of crucible tongs and a pouring yoke.

Yes, that was my thought also. I've got a welder so I plan on looking at some designs for a lifting design, and for pouring.
