I have such a gear pitch gage made in steel by Mare Island Naval Shipyard. Stock gear companies made these in plastics for gear pitch identification.
 
This seems to be epoxy impregnated fiber.
 
Also known as phenolic. They used to make almost everything from that stuff.

Yep, I could not remember what it was.
Haven't dealt with it in years.
 
Would be nice if they were labeled, though.
 
I have dealt with and made a lot of things from phenolic, mainly bottling machine change parts, it is tough as a gut and easy to bandsaw and sand to finish shape; it does not smell pleasant when machining, but I guess that is OK ---
 
I seem to recall this by a trade name...G10? Is that correct or am I misremembering?

I remember when I was a kid building RC pan cars, we would by a sheet of G10 and carve our our custom chassis with scroll saws.
