Type of taper

Does anyone know what type of taper this is? The "tang" end is round. It's attached to a Jacob's chuck #6444 (the chuck itself has a threaded male, I think). I have several of these that came in an auction box.

Thank you! Why is the end round instead of flat? That is what confused me (actually, a lot of things confuse me...).
 
I have some MT2 live centers with pins instead of flats. Easy to insert no alignment needed.
