I recently moved the minimill to a new table. I had it on two 3/4" pieces of particle board before just to space it up off the other bench actually a desk so it would also be more stable. These pieces were bolted to the bottom but the whole thing was not bolted to the desk. The new table is very much more substantial. It was an assembly table for a factory that has a 1/$ plate steel top with 1/2" steel edge welded around it. I Have to of these tables sitting side by side and then put a piece of 3/4" plywood on top. So I didn't get sagging in the 3/4" plywood sitting on that 1/2" space I through some pieces of 1/2" plywood in between. Anyway I bolted the mill base down to all of this and reassembled the mill. When I went to tram it I was blown away by how far off it was, about 30th. What happened? I finally figured out that the tightness of my bolts that went completely through all the plywood and the 1/4" steel top actually distorted that mill base. I didn't think this was possible but yet it is. I now need to change what I am doing to secure the mill so I will work on that.
I just wanted to post this issue in case any other newbies like myself ever come across this or go to fastener their mill down.
Have a great day!
