thinking of building trolley to move bits between lathes.
want to make as stuff interchangeable as pos.
chucks will be only bits that will stay with lathe its for, all other bits will be swappable.
anyone done one or got ideas as to whether or not a workable idea?

looking along lines of drawers at base and board on back to hold tailstock bits etc.
main lathe when running will be southbend 9" model c, second lathe which at mo is main one is a chinese model.
any comments or pics welcome.

The rolling tool carts work quite well. If you chose to buy rather than build, Harbor Freight has sales from time to time where they are quite reasonably priced (sorry, Taycat, I don't know about their availability in Canada). Last week, they were offering a 26"cart for $120. Disclaimer: I do not own a HF tool cart but have a 36" house brand from a local DIY. It is conveniently located between my mill and lathe in a severely spatially limited shop.

I suspect that by the time you purchase casters, drawer slides , and other materials, you are probably well on the way to buying one outright. If you choose to build, rather than buy, supermarket trolleys make excellent heavy duty bases for your cabinetry.

worth looking at, nevr thought about roll cabs.
think machine mart is our equivalent to harbour freight in england

I use a rolling book cart obtained from a law firm. (Most firms are down-sizing their libraries since most legal research is now done on-line. They are usually happy to give away the carts.)

These carts can handle enormous weight. The shelves are inclined inward, and lined with rubber runner material from Ace Hardware, so the tools don't fall off.
