Im a truck driver; last wednesday I was making a delivery to an equipment serice center. Their loading ramp is a self standing structure in the back of their yard by the roll off scrap dumpster. While the shop foreman was unloading the equipment parts, my eyes see this in the dumpster!

So out of curiosity I ask the shop foreman/forklift driver what the story is on the drill press, his reply "The motors fryed, they bought a whole new drill press to replace it." I ask "What would it take for me to have that one?" Without hesitation he said "Dive in there and get it!"
The rest is self explanitory!

The trip in to the dumpster yielded a little damage.

It wont take much to fix that tho!
I havent had a spare monent to check the motor, but the switch is really lose and unresponsive, so I might have an easy fix.
The most interesting thing was getting this sucker home in my 4 door sedan!
:allgood:

Right place, right time. NOT the story of my life!

That's a nice score! I guess it was probably just plain easier and an overall advantage for the shop to buy new, tax write off and otherwise. But it is a shame that we have such a disposable mentality, wonder how many other treasures never got found and made it in to a dump only to be covered up and never seen again?

Good Luck on the repairs, perhaps it is something really simple!

Nice score JP I have one it looks about like that one. Bad motor and other things prolly never get fixed.

To many other things to fix.

Paul

Well done, jp. Pays to keep the eyes open eh? Guess you won't be needing that big old drill press from Joe's?

Im still considering that drill press Mr Tony, I just have too many irons in the fire. If the old girl isint hurting anything where she sits, I will have a home for her in about September. This new Orbit, if I can get it opperational will be a stand-by, or a bartering piece.

I don't think it's going anywhere. I'm going for the radial I think. The Nabal is still there, and the B&S horizontal. Then we start on the other end of the shop. I'll save the drill press for you if you want. Might be ready to negotiate on the price a little, not sure. Lots of stuff in the shop yet to clear out. I've tagged a 20 ton punch press, a 10" pedestal grinder, and a Rockwell T&C grinder besides the radial. I think I'll be overstuffed in my shop by then unless I start moving stuff out. I need to do that anyway.

Nice Score
Some times dumpster diving pays off, and in your case it did.:biggrin:

The best finds are completely unexpected.
SCORE!
