She dropped an IPhone 16pro in my lap last night and I’m floored.

I’ve had trouble taking pics this good back in the day with a 35mm camera with proper lenses.

Anyone why follows any of my threads has heard me lamenting the limitations of the 10xr I have been using. Wether it be harsh light on shiny parts, my finger prints on the lense or blur/pixelation due to high levels of digital zoom.

This is nuts….literally.

Pecan on a salt packet.

Salt grains that look like gravel.

These are just quick off hand shots with no available after image “correcting”, and I’m pretty sure these don’t even do the cameras justice.

I just got my first real phone a couple months back , always had my flipper handy while working . I have the 15 , and yes , it takes better pics than my Canon . I still don't know how to use the phone but I'm learning as I go along .

I still can't get used to carrying this phone around though , it doesn't fit in my front pocket like the flipper .

I got an iPhone 12pro in 21 and haven't even thought about using the digital Nikon since. The 16 must be Awesome!

Check out the zizo cases. I have had one of these on every phone I’ve had and they’re great.

I have the Bolt.

Slips into and clips onto your front pocket and won’t fall off. I crashed street bike with one in my pocket and everything but the phone was scratched and broken including my head and knee. Stayed right where it was through a low speed but violent high side.

Try other shots, like long range (zoom), etc. Phone cameras are, due to physics, innately good at macro (close up) shots. To the extent that some aren't it's because of "corrective" optics to favor more typical photographs.

I wish I'd never have gotten rid of my D2H...

Like my Google/Pixel 5a for pics especially low light, but it's cameras quit tried everything and no fix, so I ordered a 7 pro with more zoom, the day I opened the box on the pro model I thought I wonder if spending All that money on a new phone the old one would mock me by starting to work again and what do you know sure enough it started working. New pro has not been used yet. SMH.

Cell phones have impressed me with their image quality. But I still use my old Nikon D300 & 3 lenses. It can't do video & doesn't fit my pocket.

Still using my iPhone 12 mini, which fits in my front pocket.

Seriously bummed they dropped this form factor because eventually I will have to replace it. Most likely will stay with the iPhone (I'm from Cupertino) but will need to get pants with bigger pockets I guess :(

I have a range of "cameras" that I use for different situations:

iPhone 14+ for daily photos (like for the forums), casual & business travel and to document field conditions/inspections (commercial & industrial building design & construction).

Nikon D5100 to document (video for YT, photo for publications) shop builds.

Canon PowerShot G15 (5x optical zoom, with stabilization, optical [not through the lens] viewfinder) for international and other significant travel (like 40th anniversary trip to Rome in 2014).

Nikon D7000 and D7500 bodies for use with 70 – 200mm, f/2.8; 12 – 24mm, f/4; & 50mm, f/1.4 Nikon lenses for special activities like grandchildren sports & performances or sporting exhibitions/competitions (I have a great shot of Kristi Yamaguchi at the end of a spin from one of her first appearances in Stars on Ice in the early 90's; just need to find it as it is on film - Nikon F-4). The combination of long lens & wide f-stop makes all the difference in these situations.

For nostalgia purposes, I also have my 1970 vintage Nikon Ftn (I sold off my other Nikon Pro film bodies and lenses in early 2,000's as I transitioned to digital).

However, I continue to be impressed with the capabilities of the iPhone 14+ cameras, which are 2 generations (plus lacking a 3rd camera) behind @RaisedByWolves 16 Pro.

Looked at the pecan pic on my desktop when I got home and while far from perfect, it’s miles better than my 10xR pics.

Lighting is apparently very important otherwise the pics get grainy especially using digital zoom.

The “big” camera on this phone does up to 5X optical zoom and 5 times that with digital for a total of 25X zoom. Having the digital follow the optical is a big plus as far as picture quality goes.

My fingertip at 25X looks like South Dakota.
