I recently restored a Logan 820 and am now doing a South Bend Model B.. ( being converted to an " A" during restoration.
I used Hammerite, Brushed on the Logan but thinking of using Rustoleum on the South Bend. Hammerite doesn't have the color I want... Blood red ( before it hits the air) Deep Deep Red I don't believe restoleum will give the Excellent results with " BRUSHING " that Hammerite does due to it not being a heavy as Hammerite( in my experience). So I am considering getting a detail Spray gun and spraying.

I am looking for some EXPERIENCED advice on how much to thin the rustoleum for spraying and what size tip best suits the thinned mixture .
Direction warn to not thin more than 5% for BRUSHING.... But no directions for spraying. Can anyone that has used restoleum give a review on how it worked???
As always thanks for the replies

hi, i have used rustolium alot and always brushed it on, tried spraying it one time useing a laquer tip in my binks did not like the results so i went back to the brush, 4 hrs between coats in a hot garage with a total of 3 coats turned out a nice job all the brush marks ran in good together. ive used this on snow plowes farm equipment and a 30foot by16foot barge we use in a lake as a boat dock it works great for us. Mac never thined mine but once did not like the results.

I used rustoleum machine tool gray right out of the can and there aren't any brush strokes. I did three coats and i think is looks pretty decent.

I didn't prime, fill or sand a thing and it is a solid working finish.

It is not a museum finish though.
