Awhile ago I picked up some Timken taper roller bearings and I was wondering if they could be used on some of the larger lathes or milling machines? There are 3 sizes and the boxes are marked:
  1. 539 Cone (I have 2)
  2. 525 Cone (I have 2)
  3. 623 Cone(only have 1)
Is there any way to tell if these are useful in a lathe or milling machine?

You are better to list ID/OD/Width as well.......Many older bearings are superceded by bearings the same size ,but with different roller configurations.

Use Timken's on-line catalog for the bearing ratings. If the size is suitable they could probably be used for a lathe or other spindle.

Without the mating cone, not worth saving IMHO......a surplus bearing co might pay $1 each for them ,in bulk.........although Ive only been offered $1 for complete ,boxed, sealed ,metric (current) size taper rollers,in quantity.......The bearing suppliers only pay a few cents wholesale for bearings they sell for $25 each. Its all the labour and storage cost in selling bearings.
