It would provide an interesting story to learn of why it became so. Were there that many external companies involved in building the MG? And would they have provided what the factory designed?

i think they're all kept in garages now.

there were whitworth tools for english cars and motorcycles.

i relate metric tools to my infamous '59 Fiat Bianchini coupe.

other than that i've stayed American.

i guess the twist you're throwing in is 'Unified'.

are we better off not knowing what that is?:)

i've always patted myself on the back for

figuring out at NAPA that SAE washers were narrow ones

and the other name washers were wide.

or maybe it's the other way around?:)

that's the depth of my experience with that kind of thing.
