Threading for Clamps

I am just starting to learn machining. I bought a mini-lathe and would like to make some screw clamps for my woodworking hobby. I believe that this will require both a right and a left hand thread on each rod. Does anyone have any experience with or ideas on something like this?

Dale,

You'll need some sort of follower rest on your lathe to cut a screw that long, aside from that a standard 60º thread will work fine. Cut your thread toward the headstock for the right hand thread and toward the tailstock for the left hand thread. Of course you could cheat and die-cut the threads, but you probably want to use the new lathe.
