Hi all have a question about removing a thread dial and putting it back on. I had to take mine of and it was off for a while, the carriage was moved back and forth. I want to put it back on but was wondering if it has to be timed in some way or does it not matter? Thanks Denis

One word of caution.
It takes only a small force to hold the dial in position as it has no load.
Have seen a couple with stripped threads in the carriage because they were over-tightend.

And while it's off the carriage may as well take it apart, clean and re-lube ... there are only a few parts and requires just a couple of minutes. (That hadn't been done on my ancient Sheldon for who knows how long and the dial literally froze up ! Had to soak it in mineral spirits for several days to loosen enough so that I could disassemble it -)

You will want to align one of the marks on the dial with your fixed index mark when the half nuts are engaged. It doesn't matter which one. Once that it done, the rest of the marks should also be in line.
