I posted this question in another area on the forum because I didn't see the jet Threads, so I'm reposting my question here. Hope it's the right area. I have a chance to purchase a Jet 1236PY. It's probably 30 plus years old but the seller says it's in good shape. I was wondering what you all think of these machines. It comes with limited accessories and only the 3 jaw chuck. I think the seller is asking a bit too much. I'd like to hear some opinions on the machine and where you thing the price should lie, assuming it is in decent shape. This will be my first lathe btw, and although my dad taught me a lot way back when, I'm just getting back into machining at the ripe age of 71!

Thanks for your input.

Those are decent machines- just don't pay too much. Does it have a steady rest? Around 1200-1500$ would be my guess

No steady rest. The guy is asking $2500 which sounds like way too much for what it is

Nice Machines. The PY is the newest version, with the Fwd/Rwd switch/lever on the carriage. It's Big Brother to my Jet 1024, basically the same head stock with longer bed.

I agree at ~$2500, it's a bit high, especially without any accessories. Recent ones around here w/ 3 & 4 Jaw Steady and Follow rests have fallen in Mark's suggested range of $1200-1500.

Dat 510... That looks like a bargain compared to the one I've been looking at. Thanks for letting me kn ow.

I'm not allowed to post it, but there's a 1236PY with DRO, and accessories for $2K
On the SF CL, located in Mountain View

Hi all This my first post. Above Dat510 has the Jet1236 Craigslist add. It is only a few miles from my house. It appears to have little use
But aged. Thinking of going to see if tommorrow. If it runs well etc. I am thinking worth $1500 maybe a little more. Wanted your thoughts
