Tailstock Turret

been reading David Fenner's mini-lathe tools and projects book (wsp 48) in it he builds simple 4 way tailstock turret.
for the bracket he uses some 1/2" plate he had in his scrap box.
only got some 3/8" in mine will i get away with that or should i buy some 1/2"?

I would use what's on hand. I mounted a Logan turret tailstock on quarter inch for another project and worked fine.
