Hello my friends! I finally got around to repairing the 618 surface grinder that I ought off Ebay. My new chuck just arrived and after some trial and error (never used a surface grinder before) I got everything zeroed in real nice. I made a basic video for you all if interested at

I have quickly learned that a surface grinder is not a milling machine. I was a bit heavy handed at first but I think I have it now... Maybe :)

I doubt I will get a surface grinder in my current shop configuration (cleanliness is an issue in the basement)... however I thoroughly enjoy watching folks restore machines to their functionality!

Please keep the pics and videos coming, as your time allows.

Nice job, looks good. :aok: And yes a suface grinder is for tenth's of a thou,

Nice job. I think I used one those in the past. Glad to see people rebuilding and using them.
When I worked at GE they would new machines sometimes. They bought a new surface grinder while I was there. The setup people started it up and touch off the surface of the chuck. Next thing they did was to grind the surface about .005 deep, .001 per pass to true it up and test all the controls.
