I am finally getting around to cleaning, painting and wiring in my surface grinder. One question I have is what is a good material to replace the rubber cover with. I am not sure what the cover is even called. But it is the sheet that covers the Y axis as you move the table in and out. I have the original one to use as a pattern but not sure of the material. Here is what I am thinking of using http://www.use-enco.com/CGI/INSRIT?PARTPG=INLMKD&PMPXNO=22546684&PMAKA=327-6753 Any better ideas?

Here is a before picture of the grinder. I don't have any showing the part I am talking about (of course) Will try to take more pictures tonight.

If you have a plastics retailer in your area, take the cover in and ask them. Tell them what conditions it will face - sparks, coolant, etc. they may have just the thing.

Sheet neoprene will work fine. I'm sure you know this but it's important to keep that cover in good condition. As soon as it starts to deteriorate replace it. That's a mighty fine grinder you have there. It looks like it has the poly V pulley drive system. Not too often seen and highly versatile. If you grind much carbide you'll really appreciate it.

Go curb shopping and grab a treadmill. The walking belt makes a good cover. Cut what you need and save the rest.
