I picked up a 6in. 506 Sunstrand belt sander at Gov surplus auction that is powered by a 5hp 3ph motor .I have a single ph 3 hp with the right frame size i was wandering if you think i will be happy or will it be way under powered . It seems like 5hp is almost over kill but i have no history with a belt sander of this size any input on this would help Thanks Donny

Donny--if you already have the 3hp single phase go ahead and use it--I can't imagine it being too small--I run a 6" belt sander that takes a long belt and my motor is a large 1hp single phase. are you using it for wood or metal? --it should work for either with no problem. --Dave

Your right Dave i really don't have any thing to lose .It will be used primarily for metal . I have found pics of these machine for sale but have not had any luck finding a manual any suggestions were to look ? Thanks Donny

Donny--just put a search on ebay for a sunstrand 506 belt sander manual and wait for an email to show up--it may take a while but maybe someone will list one. --there can't be too much about a belt sander that you can't figure out---what size belts does it take? --you can put a search on ebay for them also. --
