I have a decades old Sunnen hone and a few stones for it as well. I know what most folks use these for in the engine building community. This one was likely used for kingpin replacement since I got it from an old coop a few years back. My question for you guys is would you see much worth in cleaning and restoring such a machine for use in a home type shop?
I really have nothing in the machine, but its use for all practical purposes would be limited to the selection of hones I have which might be 10-12 tops. My point is the hone could be used for anything that you have a stone that will fit whatever bore you want to smooth. Buying additional sized hones runs into a lot of dollars quick.
The bottom line is this, unless you are rebuilding engines or doing kingpin replacement is having a free Sunnen hone something I should consider a real benefit to my home shop or not? So far I have not been able to get too excited about putting much energy into it. Just checking opinions here.
