I have acquired (*) a ML7 which I am attempting to provide the appropriate TLC to. 1963 model by the serial number. It is going mostly fine so far. Cleaning out all the bearings where the previous owner had used grease and adjusting as needed.

The oilers that are fitted are of a model I have not been able to identify. I've added a picture below and would appreciate any information on them.

Many thanks.

(*) By acquired I mean, I got a message via a contact saying the machine was due to be skipped as part of a clearout and if I wanted it FOC for our local hackspace then to collect it within three days. It was filthy and had obviously not had someone to look after it, but was not very worn, just out of adjustment.

I would venture to guess it’s a shop made oiler courtesy of a previous owner. In all my reading, myford owners specifically have a penchant for making anything they think they need. Of course I’m ignoring several biases and logical fallacies by thinking that way. But I’m good with it.

It was previously owned by an industrial concern. I would have expected most items then to be stock rather than home made as it is not cost effective in staff time to have people making custom bits. Anyhow, I have to take the headstock apart to replace the drive belt so will take the opportunity to clean them out and fully inspect.

Looks like an older version of a drip oiler with a bottom adjustment instead of top:

Here we have something called G jobs, which tend to be more personally fulfilling than the company mission. Although, seldom would a company machine benefit from this work. But I’ve been known to make attempts at dummy proofing company assets that I had to share with other dummies.
You’re probably right though. It’s just an old one.
