If you do not have coolant on your milling machine you might want to give STP a try,it is thick and gooie so it stays where you put it, and in my humble opinion it improves surface finish and extends tool life. Should be available at most any auto parts store.

I have found WD40 to be good for milling aluminum. To economize, I mix it 50/50 with mineral spirits and that wokrs just tickety-boo

The traditional lube for aluminum is kerosene but it stinks. I like wd40 on aluminum too. It works good and the smell is much better.

Since the mention of Crisco (I think it was Billy G), I've been trying it wherever I needed any kind of lube. It hasn't caused any problems and has worked quite well, even on aluminum.

The stores keep it at room temperature and there isn't an expiry date, so I'd never eat it. :scared: A pound should last forever in the shop. I apply it with an acid brush. Doesn't smell bad.
