Starrett No.124 missing parts, and wrench size.

So I got a vintage Starrett No.124## (Don't know the missing sub category) Rod type micrometer at auction years ago for a low price. Cheap due to the missing parts, and no calibration certainty. Like many of my vintage tools I managed to revitalize them and verify accuracy with outside reference. And I intend to do the same here.

What I missing is the 0.5 inch tube, the long reach handle, and two wrenches. The tube will be an easy enough item to make, along with the long reach handle. What I would like to know from some one who has this or a similar set, is the dimensions of the wrenches. I can measure the rods and conclude that a 1/8 and 5/32 wrench end are needed. Though looking online at completed sets there is a large micrometer barrel wrench and a "medium" say (1/4) wrench end.

What do these other wrench ends adjust if anything? If the barrel of this micrometer is not adjustable then why a barrel wrench, where does the medium wrench go? I could assume that the wrenches fitted with the unit are carried over from a different micrometer, hence un needed ends.

Thanks in advance.

So far as I see it, there is no .5 tube, the spanner fits the nut adjustment under the thimble, similar to the nut adjustment on all their mikes. The diameter of the nut is .472" The extension handle is 6- 3/16" long overall with 2" of knurl on one end and 3/16" of thread at the other end, ,104 major dia. one wrench is .112" opening, single ended, ,151 thick, the other wrench is double ended with the spanner for the nut adjusting function and the other end with a .160 opening, both of these open end wrenches are for adjusting the length of the measuring rods using a set of micrometers for reference. Personally, I do not read the ID mikes directly for close measurements, but instead measure them with mikes that have been checked for accuracy. All the wrench ends have a function with this mike.

There are literally dozens of micrometer wrenches listed on eBay. Some are as cheap as $5.00. I doubt you could make one for that price

Yeah the problem is I'm in Canada. At times the seller refuse to ship north or the shipping and import expense often exceeds the price of the item. Sometimes equivalent items are cheaper from UK than US. Domestic listing not withstanding.

Doubt I can do it cheaper? That sounds like a challenge. In any matter, I will leave those tools listed to others who need them, while not able to make the ones in question. Why buy a 5$ wrench when I have a 25$ carbide endmill in the waiting to snap.

Thanks for the checking and finding the numbers for me.

The .5 inch long tube I was referring to is for extending the rods 0.5 away from micrometer body. It's needed for measurements 2.5 to 2.999 and whole inche larger than that.

I see that you are also missing the half inch spacer that fits over the shank of the extension rods, since the mike head has only a 1/2" range, this is a necessary part.

In your initial post you did not say that the "tube" was 1/2" LONG, only that it was a 1/2" TUBE, no mention of length, which led me to assume that it was 1/2" diameter
