What was this indicator holder designed for?

It's pretty long compared to something like an Indicol. I figure it's designed for pretty sizeable machines like horizontal boring mills.

The end of the secondary arm seems designed for lug back indicators. I'll probably buy a new indicator just to stay on this holder.

I bought both holders for $10.

Back in the days before there were magnets, you had to clamp the indicator holder to something solid.

Seriously, the clamp makes it easier to use an indicator on something like a ball joint (back when you could replace them in your driveway) or a brake disc to check runout or almost anything else that is easier to check in place rather than disassembling and using a fixture.

Always used one like this on the paper press . Nothing was magnetic .
