Starrett Height Gauge questions

I have an LS Starrett 454 vernier height gauge, 18". See the box label below.
I have many questions.

1) The box shows "Without Attachment H". So...not having any old Starrett catalogs...what is attachment H?

2) Label also say "1 ONLY". Curious if that has meaning. Anything to do with the fact that only one side has markings? Compared to a similar #454 12" that I have (which has height markings on both sides - 1 side starts at 1", the other starts at 0"), the 18" model is only marked on ONE side. And it starts at 1".

3) Lastly, and the biggest question: What attachments normally would come with the height gauge? I have an assortment of scribers for Starrett and various other brands (Ford, B&S, etc) along with the clamp to attach them. I have not yet been able to figure out how this height gauge would be workable. The 1" marking is not 1" from the bottom of the base. With any combination of scribers that I have (keep in mind I don't have any dimensions for the original product accessories), I cannot find a scriber to make the tip be at 1". See the pic below, even IF I custom grind a scriber, so the tip is at 1", the scale doens't start until about 1.4".

Is it valid to assume that with an 18" (and they also make a 24") that you just don't use it for smaller readings/markings? Anything less than 1.4", you just use a smaller height gauge? Or (seems odd) are you supposed to subtract 1-2" from what the gauge reads to get your actual measurement?

If anyone out there has any thoughts/suggestions or even answers...I'm all ears.

I made offset scribers for both of my height gauges. If you look close at the Starrett 454 you can see that someone (Me) engraved new numbers on the inch markings to indicate the surface being zero.
The Starrett 454 is a junk one that one of my early employers was getting rid of. I used it until I bought my Starrett 254

@minicoopers, yours looks like it could actually make it to zero (your re marked zero), but mine would not. Mine May have a thicker base…

Check out the front of the base that sits on the plate. It is round. That is used to circle sweep with an indicator to check squareness of angle blocks. You would raise the slider up above the an angle plate and remove the scribe L shaped part and install adapter with a round end that you clamp a dovetail indicator to. That is the part your missing. https://www.penntoolco.com/precise-height-gage-bar-and-indicator-clamp-set-clamp-hole-3-8-x-5-32-bar-size-3-16-x-5-16-x-3-303-470/?msclkid=0934ee828f64126ea0498a977120dea3&utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=**LP Shopping (1.1) - <$50&utm_term=4575617639489047&utm_content=110206 | Precise Height Gage Bar and Indicator Clamp Set - 303-470 | $12.95

The one on the right (your picture) you can remove the paint of the U shaped front and use a 3/4 " x 1" dowel pin, standing on the end and use it to circle sweep too. I have one like the one on the left that I sweep with. Also on the small Starrett height gages that have the one rod with a round end is for circle sweeping too. On the link to ebay the top of the shaft is round. You put that on the bottom and line up indicator with the centerline. I have some photo's someplace and will look for them and attach later. I found the pictures. The Vintage Starrett gage is next to my flat ground plate I also use a ground shaft 3" dia. x 1" long - end turned and ground and set a mag base and indictor toto circle sweep. https://www.ebay.com/itm/115733196841?hash=item1af23c7029:g:V~IAAOSwNHJj7Sip&amdata=enc:AQAHAAAAwNJYalry6O7zGiIvH4Dunj8gzkCLpgwuct2mPAA1YCBFY2wqS0IxSDWNYoDFuGo4Z6Lfmbaljjf/NxQwjyXnMx9TBvuusxwb/OmsNqIRLhVfHf5OqHv3fOakMkF9U/UvqrAu5iVAGVxuJ4pb1Fx88bINotAKSw13hkCWAeCHMDKDN66tcpUdUkWee0s7mTPoHuPEQhxxEon75UyLeKD/px/ULt/XqMwD1+KFMao+0kc0/Yxq8s5G6D6/NhIor6g8yQ==|tkp:Bk9SR-qerN_eYQ

And did they ever sell a set with more than 1 in a box? Seriously…
No, standard nomenclature, particularly for suppliers to the government/military. Also seen as "1 each", though there may be some fine distinction between the two. Those with experience in military procurement will recognize the terminology. "Jeep, 1 ea., OD in color"

The attachment 454H is a depth gage attachment, it fits in place of the scriber and has a collet in the end that secures a sliding rod vertically for measuring the depth of holes or narrow slots, I have one with my 12" #255 height gage that I bought in the 1960s.
