This is the first Starrett 827B I've ever seen like this......
It had a bad spring in it from a smaller edge finder. Someone rigged it with a fishing spinner but the end isn't supposed to spin. Probably a non-machinist.
I had a spring that worked. It seems to work on both diameters.
The end is 0.2" as usual. The larger diameter is 0.620. I thought that was odd. Easy math though. The reach on it is pretty long so that is helpful.
I'd love to find the original spring someday. $10 at the flea market.
