Looks well used, maybe beat up even but for $40 definitely worth taking a look at it.

It is well worth that price as a "core" to have calibrated by pros, especially if it does not have serious damage or wear and you can deliver it and pick it up not too far from your shop to be calibrated and certified. That thickness in that size was probably an AA grade plate when sold new, but that is meaningless in a used plate other than knowing it has extra stability due to the thickness. My 18x24x4" 2 ledge plate is not too difficult for two reasonably strong men to lift, but that one will be heavier yet. I calculate the one for sale at ~220 pounds, mine at ~180 pounds. As it is, it is only a kinda' squared up rock, not a surface plate, and the price should (and does) reflect that. I paid $50 for my "core."

Edit: North Hollywood is not too far from Standridge Granite, who can calibrate it, perhaps even while you wait if you ask nicely...
