I couple questions and they might be related.
I'm retrofitting an older small Boxford lathe and have replaced the DC motor with a servo.
I have a timing belt now instead of the combo belts.
How tight should the belt be, should I be able to deflect it 1/8, 1/4, etc?
How do I know if the spindle needs to be lubricated, If so I don't see any thing obvious. The bulk of the spindle is encased in the cast metal shown.
I'm hearing some squeaking coming from the spindle, this is most noticeable at pretty low speeds and goes away around 300 rpm
It's possible I'm hearing the belt and not the spindle.
