I'm replacing the spindle bearings in a model 40 Index mill. I have the bearings out.
I've never dealt with angular contact bearings. When I removed them, the sides that say "thrust here" were facing each other. I'm assuming that there is a right and wrong way to assemble these. I learned long ago not to just put things back together the way they came apart. It's obvious I'm not the first one to take the spindle apart. The bearings don't seem bad but they make a lot of noise. I thought it was possible that it was just assembled wrong. Any bearing specialists that can enlighten me? Thanks, Chuck
