Can someone explain the proper procedure for tightening the spindle locking nut on an 12"atlas.

Tonym,

Be sure that you download the correct Tech Bulletin. Although what you are specifically asking about is the same in both, the rest of the wrong one will be quite confusing. For the early 12" (101.27440 and back) you actually need the 10" one.
