I disagree that it is not worth 3500.00. Providing the machine is complete and functioning, that includes the chip pan. That is a good machine,

Well John you could be right. Or maybe not.
I spent my life working on and making parts on "old worn out" machines...
I think everyone should have to experience making a good part on a old worn out machine.

I can relate to worn out machines, the shop that I apprenticed in had quite an assortment of them, lathes with 1/8" wear down on the carriages and similar amount of shimming between the tailstock upper and base, and lots of other types of machines with excessive wear and galling damage, but, yes, we managed to produce work of acceptable quality and to tollerences specified on engineering drawings. The shop also had some newer machines that were in good condition for the closer work, notably two American Pacemaker lathes, and two G&L 350T boring mills.
A very close inspection would be advised with that lathe before buying.

Not a lot of difference, well made, mostly good materials; the small ones that I have dealt with have had soft spindles prone to wear before the bearings, they are well designed and made, but not so good for heavy cutting.

I own a 16x72 and it doesnt have the rpms for small diameter work but it can take a cut. I was taught to bury a tool during roughing operations and I do.
