I have scoured the Atlas catalogs and manuals, and been unable to find a part number for the 2 step pulley on the motor. My Dad's lathe (vertical countershaft, babbit bearing model 10) has a visible wobble and it seems to be the source of significant vibration at higher speeds. I have also scoured the usual online sources, from Grainger to McMaster to Enco and MSC, all without success. I have even tried to find 3 or 4 step cone pulleys that could be cut off, but none comes close to the dimensions of the pulley he currently has on the lathe.

We would rather NOT deal with used parts from Ebay and similar auction sites. Dad would rather NOT mess with swapping pulleys on the motor when he changes form low to high speed...and he does this often enough in his pen making it would be a real handicap.

I have thought about taking 2 single pulleys of the correct diameter and working them over to eliminate the overhanging set screw area and drilling a new set screw inside the belt area so 2 are thin enough to fit the 2" motor shaft...but I am concerned that doesn't leave enough meat for stability on the shaft. Joining 2 is likely beyond my skills when keeping them balanced is factored in.

Suggestions or options I'm not thinking about!?!?!?

Make one. Seriously...:

or... maybe find the two separate pulleys somewhere like you said, bore them oversize, trim the extra off one end then join (JB-Weld maybe) them onto and together on a sleeve that fits your motor shaft size. You would still need to figure out the keyway arrangement too.

or... get Dad a variable speed motor and use one pulley. Bet he would like that option... :)

Hopefully someone else will have more ideas...

For my Craftsman 12" the PN is 9-42B. I believe that it is the same for the Atlas 10" also but not sure. Sears still sells it but it is very pricey. http://www.searspartsdirect.com/Cra...728000.html?pathTaken=&prst=0&shdMod=10127440.

You might give Atlas a call as they still stock a lot of parts and when I call them the price is usually a lot cheaper that other sources. A lot of the time you can purchase a new item from the for about 1/2 the price of used items off EBay.

I would still give Atlas a call Phone: (800) 535-6553. I recently purchased new half nuts and they were under $40 including delivery. MyMachineShop sells the same thing for 63.99 + shipping http://www.mymachineshop.net/product_p/10000.htm. Atlas may not be the best price on everything but they do still support theses lathes after all these years and often sell new items for less that what you can find used parts for.

9-42B is the 1/2" bore pulley. For 5/8" bore, 10-42B. If you did decide to make one, there is a drawing in Downloads.
