I have scoured the Atlas catalogs and manuals, and been unable to find a part number for the 2 step pulley on the motor. My Dad's lathe (vertical countershaft, babbit bearing model 10) has a visible wobble and it seems to be the source of significant vibration at higher speeds. I have also scoured the usual online sources, from Grainger to McMaster to Enco and MSC, all without success. I have even tried to find 3 or 4 step cone pulleys that could be cut off, but none comes close to the dimensions of the pulley he currently has on the lathe.
We would rather NOT deal with used parts from Ebay and similar auction sites. Dad would rather NOT mess with swapping pulleys on the motor when he changes form low to high speed...and he does this often enough in his pen making it would be a real handicap.
I have thought about taking 2 single pulleys of the correct diameter and working them over to eliminate the overhanging set screw area and drilling a new set screw inside the belt area so 2 are thin enough to fit the 2" motor shaft...but I am concerned that doesn't leave enough meat for stability on the shaft. Joining 2 is likely beyond my skills when keeping them balanced is factored in.
Suggestions or options I'm not thinking about!?!?!?
