There seems to be two different styles of head for the smaller knee mills. One is what I believe is called a turret head, similar to a Rockwell Delta 21-100. The other is what's offered on the Harbor Freight knee mill.
Is there any advantage to one over the other? Yes, I over complicate everything.
Also, if a person wanted to regularly be able to take off .500"x.250" in hot and cold rolled steel, should I stop asking questions about small knee mills?

If you are talking about this mill they are really quite similar, copied after older Rockwell/Clausing mills.

A later BP style head will have nod capability and power feed quill.

I'm not sure exactly what you are asking....

While physical size and hp are factors also consider the quill size and collet system.
Smaller systems may not have as much rigidity and may not grip collets as well as larger systems.
Really depends on what you are trying to accomplish.
Removal of large amounts of metal with each pass requires more rigidity.

If you want to remove a 1/2" of steel routinely, yes, think bigger, much bigger. Mike
