Single flute drills

What, if anything, are single spiral flute drill bits used for?
I’ve come across some twist drills with a typical pitch spiral flute, but only one not the normal two. Not sure if they are special for some application or just only half manufactured.
They were apparently originally acquired by someone working at a drill manufactures so may of just been rejects from the production line, some don’t appear to have ever been finish ground (no relief on the cutting edge or chisel point)

possibly these are scraps from testing the settings while dialing in the machine(s) that make the bits.
