I am looking for task lighting upgrades for my machines, any homemade or store bought:thinking:
Lets see what you have done in your shop for task lighting (not general lighting).

I "inherited" a bunch of Anglepoise (USA: Luxo?) lights from a closing down typography studio (greeting cards!), with 80W 240V halogen lamps in they give a light good enough for my old deflicted eyes - and the halogens are full-spectrum so they give daylight-like colour rendering, something compact fluorescents definitely don't!

On the lathe I've got a 50W 12V halogen in the original worklight (they're available in a bunch of different beamwidths from 10 to 60 degrees), with a bit of bodging to fit the holder in place of one for an Edison Screw 50V incandescent - the orignal LoVoLite 50V transformer (415v in) has been replaced by a 12V 60W electronic "transformer", only £3 from the local TLC electrical wholesaler!

Fluorescent lights... Hate 'em, just on colour rendering if nothing else, and they can "strobe" rotating machinery so it appears to be standing still - not a good idea.

Well this is what I tried on my mill, 23 leds in each fixture from lights America from Home Depot that were cheap with 4 light fixtures per pkg.
They run on 110 volt and install was quick with a big washer attached to the base then hi power magnets on that which holds real good to the bottom of the mill head:biggrin:

Get some of these:
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20169658/
Toss the base and attach them to a big speaker magnet or adapt them to any other string magnet. They will easily adapt to about any base.
They put out a lot of light and the goose neck is very long so they position very easy
It is hard to beat the price.

I can see where that one would be easy adapt to machine task light;) But alas we have no Ikea stores anywhere near the tater fields where we live and not sold on internet.

I don't have anything to show, but I've been determined to fit those cheap(free with purchase) 9-LED Harbor Freight flashlights onto a flexible stem of any kind, replacing the switch back with an adapter that both holds it and carries power into it. I figure it would look much like the Target and Ikea models, but the stem and base could be customized for each machine. I haven't played with the voltage yet, but I'm thinking you could overdrive them a little bit more than the three AAA batteries. The stem could even be a big solid copper wire inside tubing with the a single wire. With the switch remoted away from the light, you could easily mange multiple lights and keep the switches dry. That's my plan so far. If I get one done, I'll be sure to report on it.
