Guys I order this R8 collet holder couple yrs ago before I got the mill going. Today I want to us it but looking inside the collet nut,it does not look like its been machine correctly. Does this look right to ya'll,I did use it and it seems good, but one of the resist is off center. Just wonderingCollet Nut.jpg

At my work we have two manufactures of the ER collet chucks, one big one small. The smaller one (I forget which ER #) you need to pop an empty collet into the cap every time you change size. Where as the larger cap you can rock/twist a full collet into the cap. As I presume is what you have there.

I be,that was ticket guys. took the collet and kinda play around with it turning and then kinda twisting and it pop in. Then using my thumb I was able to pop it back out.Fantastic guys thanks for responding, learning never ends

Be sure to snap the collet into the collet nut first before you screw it on the chuck and before you put an endmill in it. If you do not snap the collet in first it will not seat correctly. The Shar's plated ER chucks are quite good, I have two of them. The do benefit using a bearing nut or power coated ER nut which can help increase the tightening force. They usually require a different spanner wrench. Also make sure the collet is free of oil where it contacts the endmill.
