setting up to cut a taper

Ok I want to cut a 60 degree taper on my g0602 am I correct in think that once the compound is set at 60 I can arrange the tool post how I need to to reach the work then torn the compound dial and it will travel in a 60 degree path or do I need to set it to 30 to end up with a 60 taper ???

If you want the tip to be 60 degrees in total the cutting angle will be 30 degrees.
