I want to router a 1/8" roundover on the edges of several pieces of U-channel UHMW plastic extrusions. I've only ever used a roundover bit with a ball bearing guide which registers off one of the edge's surfaces. This material has an unusual property; the surface the ball bearing would ride on is slightly "lumpy", i.e, it's not perfectly flat. While the surface isn't perfectly flat, it is straight.
My thought is to remove the ball bearing guide from the roundover bit, then let the edge ride on the router table fence instead of the ball bearing. I've never tried this so I'm wondering if this is a safe procedure? I've made it this far with 10-digits, I'd like to see it stay that way .
Thank you.
