Roughing End Mill Geometry

I just picked up some carbide roughing end mills, I noticed that roughing end mills have different density of 'teeth' - from extra-course to extra fine. This got me thinking - what are the different application for each tooth geometry? where would you use course roughing end mills as opposed to fine toothed end mills?

Coarse cutters are for heavy cuts in low to medium strength materials. Fine pitch is for shallower cuts in harder materials.
