What a beast....

Glad I have a built-in gantry in front of my house.

Why?

Well it was a heck of a deal. And, for machine building it will be nice to drill holes into bases without having to juggle them on a tiny table....

Yeah, I guess they weren't very popular but I'm a sucker for oddball old iron....

The photos are kinda dark so not until I went back to the pic in the carport did I get more of an idea of what it really looks like. It's almost like a radial arm drill press? Is there some kind of lift mechanism on the column? Does the head also rotate?

What a cool beast it is, Variable speed to boot. I agree, I love my 24" Fosdick drill press.

Yeah, it's a pretty beefy machine in a relatively small footprint. When I get to building a stand for it I'll have storage underneath and I figure it can do anything that my other drillpress can do. It should be able to run slow enough to make whatever holes I want and if not I can always change to 3-phase with a VFD. Worst case I'll end up selling it for a nice profit but I think it's probably a keeper for all it can do.

These are from the Craigslist ad. Yes, tilting articulated radial arm drill press. Thanks to Mr. Whoppee for posting it up on here, I usually look every day but I was out in the shop and missed it until I found it listed here. Nice guy, had an awesome hobby car shop with a lift an everything. I feel lucky to have gotten it, he said lot of other folks were asking about it.

Very cool!
How does the column lift work? Worm gear?

Haven't taken it apart yet but it does move all that iron up and down surprisingly easy....

Pretty cool machine, John. Never saw one like that before. Looks like maybe 1HP? Should come in real handy so congrats!
