Greetings all!
I jumped into the hobby hand bought a Rockwell 10" lathe to learn on. It functions as is, but as I go through it and clean it up (just de-griming) I've found a few parts that could use replacement.
The crossfeed upper part (not sure of name, but it's the part the compound mounts to) is damaged in the T-slot. Is it absurd to mill out the inner circle of the T and place a new piece into this with 4 screws? Pictures would help with this idea I'm sure; I'll try and post some this evening.
During my cleaning, I found the compound leadscrew nut is badly worn. The screw itself appears to be fine, but I'm unsure where I can purchase a replacement nut.
Also, the crossfeed has about 0.025" backlash in it. I'm not 100% if this is due to the thrust bearing at the taper attachment or the badly worn leadscrew & nut. It's likely a combination of both. I found a crossfeed nut on Ebay, but I'm not certain it will fit as it appears different than mine. I wonder if the taper attachment used a different nut.
My crossfeed nut was held in place with both the set screw & a bolt from the top of the crossfeed. It also had a bunch of hand cut shims on it because the bolt was pulling it up too high and binding the leadscrew. I actually think this may be the source of accelerated wear of the leadscrew as the inside of the nut is badly worn on the bottom half and barely touched on the top.
I believe I can make a new crossfeed leadscrew using some precision ACME rod from McMasterCar but the external splines are going to be a real problem for me to figure out.

Any help would be appreciated! Also, I've seen others mention they downloaded manuals and such on this site, but I don't see a downloads area?
