It looks like it would be even more fun to play with than a shaper. Last night I was watching a few YouTube videos of a guy using his 8' metal planer to refurb the bed on an old lathe and the ways on an old Bridgeport planer.

This planer actually looks like it might be usable without having to do a big refurb job on it.
