Everyone knows the feeling of a red sleigh and raindeer. My boy just bought a one inch capable
plazma cutter suppose to come today. A quick search and for something like that is big bucks.
The kids obsessed with Keith Fenners plazma cam. I know of no one around here with one of
those things. I dont know who's worse me or him but I cant stand the suspence. Anyone have
any experiance with this kind of capacity, all I know its 230vts and think its a Hobart.
Of course the old mans going to be first to pull the trigger I hope. sam

thats a big-a** cutter. lots of noise. but i think you can dial them down to cut normal stuff. i have a 1/2" thermodynamics and love it. cuts 16ga almost as fast as you can move your hand. take pix's or better yet, a video of it cutting. ive never witnessed 1" being cut. 3/4" under water was interesting however.

Thanks davidh I got no clue how to do vidio but im still watching out the window for a del. truck.

p.s. eac67 GT hey Ed you following this, he actually is sweeping the shop sam

I have used plasma cutters up to 2 inch what I have found is there efficient at about half of there rated capacity so a one inch machine does a real nice job on 1/2 material but after that the cut is not as nice it will do it but it will not give as nice of a result as one would like and it really starts eating up the consumable parts.. Dry air is important. In his case lots of it. I'd put one of those Motorguard filters right at the machine if he doesn't have a drying/filtering system currently.

Be sure to get some extra consumables right in the beginning. It's a big pain to have to track them down when you need them. Should be easy to find online for a Hobart. Or even a good welding supply place since the Hobart and Miller consumables might be the same thing.

At work there is a plasma torch, 6 inch steel, 4 inch stainless steel. But it is real old and it will not do an interupted cut. But it will cut 6 pieces at a time with a real clean cut. The think has got to be at least 40 years old. We got another small one at our fab shop. when you cut 1/8 inch steel it cuts so fast that as soon as a piece falls out you can pick it up with your bare hands and it is hardly warm. They are amazing. when i retire i will have to buy one, but for now i use the boss's. I know you are going to love that new Hobart.
