I bought a older J head Bridgeport 1 horse this weekend. I need to get the broken screw out of the quill feed shift shaft. I haven't found a video about removing the shaft on youtube or any instructions on the web. I am probably not using the correct terms.

It has a variety of problems with the power feed, it wont shift in without pushing a detent in with a screw diver and it won't stay engaged. I am going to clean everything and then fix what I know is wrong before disassembling anything. I am thinking of putting the shift shaft in the lathe and trying to drill the screw with a left hand drill bit.

Thanks
John

They do not have this particular video. I did however find some videos that some other people have made. They do not completely explain the process but I guess I can figure it out.

I had similar problems when I bought my 1967 Series1 step pulley Bridgeport.

Get the Bridgeport parts diagrams (available on line, and at Production Tool). They will help you sort it out.
