I'm looking at Dunham Air Collet Closers and kind of choking on new pricing. $2500 and up to start. For me that is a non-starter.

Second option is buy a used manual closer and actuate with an air cylinder off the manual handle. OK, I'm kinda on the fence and thinking this is my last option of last, but reliable, resort.

Has anybody here made an attempt at a DIY inline "Dunham-style" air collet closer? If so, can someone point me to the thread or plans?

Thanks!

sounds complicated I think they use a big piston with a hole in the center for the spindle or lots of small ones sounds like a task to me!

I searched "Air Collet" on eBay and there were 999 listings for various things. If you were working on a DIY solution if might be a better start to begin with an air collet that is used or "Needs Work" to save money. There may be something that needs a rebuild and can be fixed, maybe an off brand that is just less costly.
