I have recently made a purchase of a quantity of reamers. They are mostly decimal size reamers and i know won't necessarily use all of them alot. I don't think most of you would need them often. I thought that I would ask and see if there has been a sharing pool of tools that could be made available within the group. My initial thoughts are as follows:

1. a list of available tools would be posted.
2. a request would be made for a particular tool.
3. a "charge" would be made through paypal or other methods to cover a "nonreturned tool".
4. Renter would pay for shipping. Most of these reamer are small and would go in a padded envelope.
5. renter would use and then return ship.
6. A tool returned would be credited back the " rental" charge.

Essentially it would cost the mailing costs to use a tool.
The charge would only be to make sure things get returned.
Possibly this could get expanded to other tools that some might feel comfortable "loaning".

Maybe this is a "HAIR BRAIN" idea, but I just like to see things get used, not just sit on a shelf. Let me know your thoughts.

I guess I'll take the lack of response as a "NO" we are not interested.

Not a bad idea at all.
The problem lies in that you need very specific size readers for every project.
Sometimes the posting may be the same price as buying a reamer that you need.
And sometimes you need it now, not in a week or two...

Maybe offer the extras you have for sale?
List the sizes and the make of them.
A lot use a certain make because of the quality and because they trust them.
A lot of us also have sets of readers as they are really handy!

I would say for this "loaner program" to work one would need a large variety of tools to be able to loan.

An example would be the South Bend forum on another site.
They have custom tools and specialized tools available for loan for people servicing or rebuilding their lathes.
No charge or anything, only shipping!

Give it a few days for others to chime in!
Some threads take a while to catch on!

That was already tried here it didn't work out for the loner. I don't think he evens comes to this site anymore.

I was a member of an un-related forum where that was tried. The tools started disappearing in short order, with people claiming they didn't receive them. When UPS tracking was done it showed confirmed delivery. Then, the crooks simply dropped out of the forum. Think about this, aside from a few people who actually are personal friends, you don't really know anyone here.
