There was an auction down in the San Fernando Valley back in the mid '80s that I went to.
High precision mfg company went under.
They had many ~2x3, ~3x4, etc, size plates by every station.
Some guy bought darn near every one of them.
Guess what he did with them?
Used them to build a patio...........

Fred had a Starrett pink granite plate that he dug up in someone's backyard. It had to be re-calibrated after years as a stepping stone.
