Newbies put on the thinking caps. You pros give them a chance to answer before you jump in please. This will help them. Dividing Heads have a 40:1 ratio. Rotary Tables are 90:1. You get dividing plates with the Dividing head. You can get Dividing Plates as an option for some Rotary Tables.

QUESTION --- Can you interchange the plates from one to the other? In other words can a set for a 6 inch Rotary Table be used with a comparable dividing head?

If you need more info let me know please.

i think as long as they mechanically fit and function on the rotary table, then you can use it, but you have to do your own math to figure out what each hole advances the table by, and some might come out to some odd degree that is not particularly useful.?? depending on the number of holes in the plate.

What I think, is that the plate does not change tha ratio. And so you must calculate how much you need to turn when you have a 40 position plate on a 90:1 ratio table.
I can't explain this better. But I hope you understand what I mean.

Not bad so far. I like what I see. You are thinking in the right direction.

Not to sound like I am copying everyone one else...

But Assuming that they physically fit on either machine... sure you can use them.
The divisions you get would not be the same for both machines for any given plate. But a conversion chart could be generated (with a little math or some experimentation and careful measurement) to allow them to be used on either machine.

OK -- Good going, you are all correct. As long as they physically fit they can be used. It boils down to doing the math and getting the right plate and hole circle.
