Yesterday I had the need to modify a 1/4" carriage bolt by turning down the square shoulder and cutting a screwdriver slot in the head. Rather than setting up a slitting saw, I opted for cutting the slot with a hacksaw blade. The typical hack saw blade only cuts a kerf that is .025 to .030" wide which was not enough for my needs. I doubled up the blades on the hacksaw and cut a respectable .030" wide slot.
