Drilling for a gland in my PM-833tv control box I managed to disconnect this resistor. The big green one. Colors are: red, purple, black ,gold, orange. The orange is confusing to me. It looks like a 27ohm 5w Resistor. Am I wrong? Anyone got a good source? I need to replace it quick and get up and running again. Thanks!1000001539.jpg

Orange in the 5th position is 5% 2% tolerance.

Disclaimer: I am the opposite of an electronics expert.

Edit: Corrected tolerance

Gold is multiply by 0.1 so brown blue black is 160 x .1 = 16 ohm and orange means either 3% tolerance or 3 watts
not sure which. Probably watts judging by the size
Definitely a resistor not an inductor or cap
You could probably still get a measurement of it- stick a needle or pin in the sheared off end to make contact

That is a cool calculator for us without enough experience! it always takes me a few minutes But Orange is not an option for tolerance. so perhaps it is not a resistor?

So i found some online resistor calculators that show orange as band 5 being a 3% tolerance. None of the charts seem to show that. It isnt an inductor despite the green because they only have a wide silver band as the 5th band. It looks like it has to be a 27ohm 5w 3%tolerance resistor. Which i cant find anywhere. But i assume a 27o5w1% tolerance will be OK? ordering one from feeabay now unless someone has a great source for one or two of this sort of thing.

You can always substitute a tighter tolerance, but that is a 16ohm resistor, not 27ohms...

Err scratch that, I see you said that's red and violet - sure looked like brown and blue to me.

GsT

First band looked like brown to me- lighting is dark- could be red
second one must then be violet since 26 is not a standard value- 27 is
I'm at the mercy of two or more layers of electronics across the country from you

Power resistors get hot and often the colors change after a while

Definitely red; i listed them all at the top because it is hard to see. I always have to take a good look at the blue/purple ones. And i definitely always appreciate more experienced eyes on my electrical adventures.
