I’m having a hard time finding info about this. I ran into a good deal for a Press Rite No 0 stamp press. I believe it’s 5 ton. I’m not sure what these are intended for but I’m guessing stamping out parts in sheet metal and bending??

I want to use it to take a 9” x 7” piece of 12 gauge mild steel sheet and form it into a c-channel shape. Something like a Mac 10 lower receiver :)

Will this work???

A secondary plan is possibly stamping shapes out of sheet metal or something

I don't think you have enough tonnage to do what you are planning.

I’m starting to think the same from my research. I’m thinking this might be for punching out pieces from light gauge sheet metal?

I agree.

Yup, mostly punching holes in like 22ga. Its hard to get an idea what you are talking about, but 12ga to just punch out of a sheet you’d need a huge machine. If I was doing it I’d plasma the piece out of the sheet and then make a form and do it on a a 20tn hydraulic press.

There were several companies making press' like that. I have one similar that is a Benchmaster. Most like that had a 5 ton capacity and a very short stroke. The main purpose of these presses were crimping hydraulic hoses, setting rivets and staking parts.
